Camping Along The Ice Edge - Baffin Island
Springtime at the ice edge is dubbed ‘the line of life’ The 24-hour sun light brings an explosion of photo plankton in open polar seas, a thick soup of which seabirds and marine mammals alike feed. June marks the arrival of hundreds of thousands of seabirds, including Thick-billed murres, Northern fulmars, Common eiders, and Dovekies. We may also see Narwhal, Beluga and Bowhead whale while seals and polar bear also frequent this sea ice realm.
Join us on this easy Arctic expdition, traveling across the pack ice with the Inuit of Baffin Island under a magnificent Arctic landscape. The scenery is unbeatable where a dramatic landscape of ice is frozen in place back -dropped by mountain cliffs and glaciers. We will set up a base camp and travel from here most days to look for wildlife which may include Polar Bears, Marine wildlife and Arctic nesting seabirds. You can be as active as you want, from skiing every day to just sitting back in comfort, watching the wildlife and enjoying tea with your Inuit guides.

Day 1: Morning flight from Ottawa to Pond Inlet, via Iqaluit. Upon arrival, transport to local hotel. B/L/D and Hotel included.
Day 2: Depart Pond Inlet after breakfast by dog team and komatik towards the floe-edge area. Establishment of base camp.
Day 3 - 8: Base camp near the ice edge area. Ski and hike to bird cliffs, icebergs, ice edge. B/L/D and camping.
Day 9: Return journey to Pond Inlet by dog team and komatik. B/L/D and Hotel included.
Day 10: Morning departure to Ottawa via Iqaluit from Pond Inlet.
